I love the Brennan/Angela friendship. One of my favourite scenes is from S1, where Angela asks for reassurance that she hadn’t missed her chance and Brennan tells her infinity goes in both directions.

Angela knows Brennan at that point can't provide emotional support in the way she does for Brennan, but she knows Brennan's words carry emotional weight enough in their own way to make her know that someone cares about her deeply.

I think Brennan provides Angela emotional support, in her way, which is more helpful for Angela than generic “everything will be okay” kind of support most people give. Kind of like how Brennan provides emotional support for Booth-- she pushed him to talk about his dad’s death reminding him that he had good memories with his dad too. Angela knew Brennan had that capability because she also has been on the receiving end of that. If you think about it, even at end of the day even Cam came to Brennan for support when Clark couldn’t help about Aristoo. Brennan’s problem is not that she isn’t capable of it. Its that she doesn’t trust herself in these situations. Like when Angela came to her asking if she should date Hodgins, Brennan replied that it would be equal to asking her advice on something scientific.

They ways they emotionally support each other are in the ways it's needed for both characters. Michaela once said in an interview that Brennan and Angela are opposite sides of the same person, and because of that, they need each other. And to an extent I agree. I think Brennan and Angela could live without each other, but I also think it'd be severely hard for them to find trust and love in someone like that in anyone else.
