I don't know if anyone reads the Brennan novels, but they're some of my favorite books ever. Book Brennan vs TV Brennan are two very different, but the same people. Book Brennan almost reminds me of Maura Isles from Rizzoli & Isles. She's much more timid and seems to be more at peace with her life, but she still has the good old Brennan flare like extreme self doubt and internal panic attacks and lack of belief in a lot of things. My personal favorite Kathy Reichs novel is Death Du Jour. It's the 2nd in the Brennan series, and series, if you ever get the chance to read it, do it. Same with Flash And Bones.

I've been wanting to read her books but I'm so bad with keeping up with reading that I've been putting it off. I'm definitely planning to start her first book over the summer.

I don't really read much because part of my disabilities give me trouble with reading for extended periods of time, but I always found it easy to read the Brennan novels. Probably because I visualize Brennan as TV Brennan and take it from there. I know Kathy Reichs said that book Brennan is supposed to be an older, more calm version of TV Brennan, so it helps me visualize that as well. But omg I'm excited for you to read it! They don't really need to be read in order, but it definitely helps with some of the personal storylines like children and exs as well as where Brennan is from and works and stuff.

I've read a few of them before although I can't remember exactly which ones they were, but I do know that Death du Jour was my fav amongst all of them. I love how book Brennan is portrayed, though I still prefer tv Brennan ofc - but from what I've heard of/read reviews online there's a larger group of people that prefer book Brennan to tv Brennan? Idk.

People who read the novels before the show generally like book Brennan better from what I've seen because book Brennan is way more subtle. She's not as loud and crude and isn't always making offhand unnecessary comments. But as a personal observation, book Brennan vs TV Brennan is different because I think TV Brennan's sadness is way more pronounced and her mental illnesses that I believe she has is WAY less subtle on TV, which I actually really enjoy. Book Brennan is very comforting though. They're like two sides of the same person essentially.

That makes me even more excited to read them. I always thought they based TV!Brennan off Kathy Reichs herself and not book!Brennan though? But none the less I'm excited! Is there a ton of science/forensic anthro or is it more about Brennan personally?

Is there a ton of science/forensic anthro or is it more about Brennan personally? I'm not sure honestly! Like I know there's a lot of correlation between the books and the TV show. Like how in the pilot she can't speak fluent french and talks about working up in Montreal or Quebec bc half the books are based up there (or North Carolina I believe?) and there's actually a lot of french in the books. It's not translated either, but you can figure it out by context. And the TV show is actually more scientific seemingly, but the books also have a lot more context than an episode. The books are very emotion-filled. A lot of it is Brennan doing self-reflection.

It's gonna be so fun to read about Brennan without the "procedural" element that the show has.

I read like 5 of the books but had to stop cause they just made me really sad? idk I think I was expecting it to be just like Bones but I couldn't get over how lonely Brennan's life was in the books. I enjoyed the bits that reminded me of Bones and I also liked the french-Canadian aspect cause I'm Canadian and it was familiar to me. It was just too different from the show so I couldn't really get into it

I'm a sucker for the angst, and I've always like 100% emotionally & spiritually connected with Brennan, and in the books, it's easier for me because she gives so much more than she does in the show, but I do agree it can get very heavy for her. Especially in books like Flash and Bones where she gets kidnapped and the whole book is her just having a panic attack. That was heavy.

Hmm.. honestly, I wasn't going to read the books at all, since I'm not much of a mystery novel person (which is odd, given that I grew up on Nancy Drew why wouldn't I like mysteries?), but your comments have piqued my curiosity. I'll have to check them out some point soon.

Kathy's books are really good though, I haven't had time to read the more recent ones bc I've been so busy, but I really want to when I get the time.
